Keep New Hampshire Affordable & Family Friendly.
I'm Nancy Bishop and I'm running for NH State Representative for District 20, representing the towns of Plaistow, Newton, and South Hampton.
I want to keep our community and our state Affordable and Family Friendly! Keeping NH Affordable takes money. This doesn't mean new taxes, but does require a tax code that is just and fair for all residents. Wealthy corporations, frequently with out-of-state headquarters, and residents making over $450,000 should pay their fair share. And lower income families should NOT be paying a disproportionately higher percentage of their earnings.
In recent years, the New Hampshire Legislature has been generous to business interests. Multi-year tax cuts have reduced the intended impact of both the Business Profits Tax and the Business Enterprise Tax. These two taxes have seen revenue decreases in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2022 and projected shortfalls for 2025-2027.
If we are to sustain long-term economic growth, we need to re-evaluate our actions, and recognize that constantly cutting taxes for corporations is not a path to fiscal health. We need to invest in our State so we have a healthy economic environment where we adequately fund public education and childcare, affordable housing, healthcare and mental health services. We need to raise the minimum wage, legalize marijuana and invest in programs that improve the quality of life for our neighbors and all Granite Staters, young and old.
Let's fix our regressive taxes and replace it with tax justice. Let's fund a responsible, non-wasteful budget for essential services. Together, we can make this happen! I ask for you vote on Tuesday, Nov 5th. Thank you!
